Dogs Connect
Meet Winnie - our Australian Cobberdog (Labrador/Poodle). Winnie was born on the 20th July, 2023 and is a very important member of staff at Mount Clear Primary School. Winnie currently comes to school on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. She is timetabled in various classrooms across the school to support our students.
“Evidence shows that just by being near a dog when stressed can reduce anxiety. In one of our surveys, 92% of students said they felt more relaxed during teaching and learning time when there was a dog in the classroom. We all know when children are more relaxed and less stressed, they’re going to learn more.”
“For children, animals can help with emotional regulation, social connection and communication. They can help engage students in many curriculum areas by supporting children in feeling less self-conscious than they may feel around teachers and peers.”
